SURFSIDE KIDS ACADEMY
The Regent Grand has teamed with SURFside Ocean Academy to offer Kids and teens, programs, camps, eco adventures and swimming lessons. SURFside emphasis is on marine based activities and watersports to help foster an appreciation and better understanding for the environment, people and places of the Turks and Caicos.
Each group size is limited to 8 persons with at least two specialized Instructors. All Instructors are certified In their teaching skill, are current in first aid, coaching certifications, water safety instructor certifications, marine biology/fish and wildlife degrees. All have been hand selected because of their work and life experiences and have a passion for the ocean, children and teaching.

SELECTION OF PROGRAMS AVAILABLE
The Aqua Adventure: This 3-4 hour boat excursion explores the land and water of Turks & Caicos. We tour the Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve and visit the indigenous Rock Iguanas. We study the coastal ecology of the area, looking for wildlife, birdlife and shells. Two or more snorkeling sites are also visited where we practice our snorkeling skills and learn about the beautiful marine life of TCI. Final stop is historical Fort George in seek of buried treasure.
Totally Tubing: Using the latest and greatest boats from MasterCraft, kids spend fun time on the water with professional watersports instructors.
Wakeboard /Waterski Camps: With certified wakeboard and waterski professionals, we take the kids out on the water with the best boats and equipment for both beginners and experts. Kneeboarding, skurfing and tubing are also available.
Sunset Reggae Cruise: A 2-hour sunset boat tour with tunes, snacks and mocktails. The perfect party for teens!
Dedicated 2 and 4 hour Reef Snorkel Trips (via boat): Along the northside reefs and shallower scattered reefs on the Banks. Fish ID, freediving and untouched coral heads are all parts of these underwater discoveries. Also available to participate in are Project AWARE and data collection, and fish and coral I.D.
"Iguana Island” Hop: Take a 5 minute boat ride to Little Water Cay to visit the indigenous Rock Iguana, home to over 10,000 iguanas! Once there we take an educational boardwalk tour through the small island and a ride back through Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve. How many iguanas can you count?
Smith’s Reef Snorkel Trip: Kids learn the basics of snorkeling and visit the amazing coral reefs near Turtle Cove via the beach. Equipped with underwater Fish ID cards, we look to identify and learn about the fish and coral of the area. Last, we visit the National Environmental Center and have a guided tour.
Bike-to-Snorkel Tour: Bike the safe and scenic route from Grace Bay to Turtle Cove and back, stopping at 1 or 2 snorkel sites along the way. About 5 miles (10 miles return). A favorite with our local kids!
Teen Learn-to-Sail Program: Aboard a 60 foot Formosa monohaul, sail across the Caicos Banks, dip in for some untouched snorkeling, and indulge in a gourmet meal all at your very own pace. Teens, learn to sail aboard this classic sailboat.
Southwest Bluff Ecotour: This adventure takes kids on a fun and educational exploratory tour of Providenciales. We visit the historical plantation ruins of Cheshire Hall, where kids learn about the history of the Turks and Caicos Islands and about our native plants. We then travel to the Southwest point of the island, where we hike the remote pirate caves and see the rock etchings from pirate ships of the 1600’s. We also stop by Frenchman’s Creek Nature Reserve along the way to learn about cotton, mangroves, and the unique flora and fauna of the area. We end our eco-adventure with a swim in the pristine shallow waters of this unspoilt area.
North & Middle Caicos Eco Adventure: A full day adventure beginning with a boat ride over to North Caicos. Once here, we stop to see flamingoes, snorkel untouched reefs, explore the limestone caves on Middle, visit famed Mudjin Harbour, tour historical plantation ruins and experience the real culture and beauty of TCI. We visit one or 2 local farms for fresh food. An awesome ‘kids-only’ adventure or perfect for the entire family! Add a bike for part of the tour.
West Caicos Tour: Boat over to West Caicos in search of starfish, eagle rays and ospreys. Snorkel amazing coral reefs along the way as you circumnavigate the Island. Finish off the day with a jump in the sea from a limestone rock face. Picnic lunch.
Learn-to-Kite: For kids 8 and up, learn the basics of kite flying and boarding with our baby kite and smaller kites for kids.
Glow Worm Ecotour: Experience the monthly mating ritual of the glow worms via paddle-board or kayak. 20 minutes after sunset, the glow worms display their ‘dance’ in the moving waters. Sip some hot cocoa on the sea and enjoy!
Moonlight Paddle & Supper by the Sea: Paddle across a surprise location by moonlight via kayak and learn about the stars and constellations. About an hour-long paddle followed by a campfire dinner complete with smores.
SURFside offers professional swimming lessons, from 6 months to adult, non-swimmer to advanced. Red Cross and Lifesaving Society Curriculums are used. Private lessons, semi-privates and group lessons are all available. There will be scheduled classes for all levels starting this Fall. All staff are certified swimming instructors with Lifesaving Society, Red Cross and/or YMCA and are lifeguard trained.
Morgan Luker is the director of S.O.A and heads up the eco-adventure and youth programs for SURFside. Having spent most of her life on the water and in the turks and Caicos she brings an immeasurable amount of experience and local knowledge to the programes. She holds international instructor certifications in scuba, kayaking, first-aid and swimming and has an honours degree in outdoor recreation parks and tourism.
Morgan also works with serveral luxury brand hotels in the Turks and Caicos, to design and manage their kids and teen programs.
Greg Doolittle is the head watersports instructor for SURFside. Greg has been teaching watersports for the past 25 years and is certified by the Canadian water-ski association as a wakeboard and waterski instructor.
An avid kite boarder, Greg loves teaching kiting to all ages and abilities.
